1st joint Workshop of the EARSeL Special Interest Group on Land Use & Land Cover and the NASA LCLUC Program: Frontiers in Earth Observation for Land System Science
In March 2014, together with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Dr. Ioannis Manakos (CERTH-ITI), as chair of the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) Special Interest Group (SIG) on Land Use and Land Cover (LULC), participated in the organization of the 1st joint Workshop of the EARSeL SIG on LULC and the NASA Land Use and Land Cover Change (LCLUC) program. The Workshop took place at the Department of Geography of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany, on March 17–18, 2014, and is considered as the 5th in a row Workshop of the EARSeL SIG on LULC. 156 researchers from 32 countries and all continents were hosted and discussed the latest trends, challenges and upcoming opportunities at the beginning of the new remote sensing era rising with the operation of Landsat-8 and the Sentinel missions.
